I wanted to share this video because it really hit home for me, especially during the holiday season when it seems like it’s go, go, go; do, do, do; buy, buy, buy and life seems to pass us by. Some may just see this as a video of a talented man singing a beautiful song, but for me, it was a also reminder that sometimes we just need to stop. Just stop and BE.
Be wherever we are, but truly BE there.
How many times have we seen or heard or experienced something beautiful, but we’re too busy to stop and enjoy it. I’m so guilty of this. There’s always somewhere to be, something to do, another item on my list to check off. But the reality is that there will always be more lists, more things to do, more places to be. And here we are living life, REAL LIFE, while we’re busy making other plans (quoting John Lennon again).
I love watching this video and noticing that that the people who stop to listen are enjoying the song. They’re taking it in, living in the beauty of that moment; while others notice the music but don’t take the time to really HEAR it. There’s so many little moments like that throughout my life. Some I enjoy fully, but I realize that most I just hurry past so I can finish this or accomplish that. And by the time I’m done with my task, that moment is gone and gone forever.
The sweet music of motherhood only lasts so long, and then the song ends and the music stops. This time with our kids will fly by and before we know it, they’ll be off on their own adventures that don’t include Mom.
So especially during this holiday season, I’m trying to focus on what’s most important. I’m really trying to simplify and enjoy and just BE. IT’s not easy, it’s definitely an ongoing struggle to not get distracted by the demands of life, but I keep on trying. I don’t just want to notice the music, I want to enjoy it before it’s gone.
Wherever you are, BE there.
